Hello, Wolf Pack Families!
Yesterday, I was so honoured and privileged to be able to join our Kindergartners at Middle Lake in Kananaskis Country. I kept sharing with Ms. Neale and parent volunteers that the experience was so beautifully similar to being with our Grade 6’s earlier at Camp Chief Hector for Outdoor School. While yesterday’s trip was within beautiful spring weather (compared to the Grade 6’s more wintery experience), both experiences were inspiring in showcasing what is possible when nature is our classroom and teacher.
With some World Cup Soccer/Football excitement ‘in the air’, one weekly update remains (for 2025-26), as Sports Day awaits ahead for Friday, June 19. We also look ahead to Indigenous Peoples Day observed on Sunday, June 21 (summer solstice).
As some significant updates follow, we can remind ourselves: just like in nature, each season brings its own possibilities to our school building, ...and its own shifts and changes. Of course, spring-to-Fall transitions across grade levels are significant. Know that a significant amount of thoughtfulness, time, heart, and effort go into supporting our young people (and our families) through each transition. We are in this, together.

Next Year Staffing
Class Size Reduction Grant | 2026-27 Planning
We are pleased to remind you that our school has been allocated two (2) additional teaching position(s) for the 2026–27 school year through the Government of Alberta’s Class Size Reduction Grant:
This grant funds teaching positions that support improved learning conditions in kindergarten to Grade 9 classrooms.
This funding is specifically intended to help reduce class sizes in core subject areas (English Language Arts/French Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies), with priority given to schools experiencing the greatest class size pressures.
This decision was made using system-wide data that considers:
- The number of classes exceeding provincial class size benchmarks
- Projected enrolment and class organization
- School programming and grade configuration
Our goal is to ensure students benefit from:
- Increased teacher attention
- Improved classroom learning environments
- Greater support for diverse learning needs
We remain committed to supporting strong learning environments for all students and using our resources thoughtfully and strategically.
Reminder | Bicycles, Scooters, and other Wheels
As a courtesy reminder, we also want to remind students and visitors about:
Wheeling to/from school.
- For personally owned wheels, racks exist for both bicycles and scooters (for locking), with no wheeling permitted on school property (before, during, or after school).
- Bicycles, rollerblades, skateboards, and scooters must be dismounted and walked, once upon school property.
Personal property:
- School or staff members are not responsible for lost/stolen/damaged bicycles/scooters/wheels/etc. as proper locks, etc. are considered by parents/guardians/students for student use.
Greetings | from our recent student “Principal for the Day”
“Lucia R. was the principal-for-the-day and she had so much fun. At QES there is an option to have your child run the school for a day.
Kids love being in charge… plus free food. Lucia got to walk around the school and meet a few classes. She got to pick a spirit day near the end of the year: a day to dress up like a character from a book on Tuesday, June 23. “I’m obsessed with books, so that’s why I did it,” says Lucia principal-for-the day.
Having your child be a principal for the day is a wonderful opportunity for any child. Lucia knows a few kids who would want to be in charge.”
-Lucia R.
The Principal for the Day initiative and tradition is run in coordination with Parent Society through School Council.
Notification | School Library Book Returns, OVERDUE
Ms. Van Steensis in our Learning Commons (library) is asking for all school loans to be returned by Friday, June 12. Please take a good look for any QES materials (whether library materials and classroom materials) and ensure everything is returned back to our school through homeroom teachers.
If a book or material has been ‘missing’ for some time, we would still appreciate its safe return to our school, without consequence.
Notification | Report Cards available Thurs., June 25
Families can view, download or print online report cards for kindergarten to Grade 12 students June 25 – July 31, 2026 through MyCBE. Within MyCBE, families can also view student information, comments from your child's teacher, assignments and grades, and attendance information.
Please note:
After July 31, 2026, report cards will no longer be available to access in MyCBE.
More information and resources are available on CBE's Assessment & Reporting website.
