Hello, Wolfpack Families!
Following our professional learning efforts and discussions and Monday and leading into Fall Break, our school-wide learning continues to focus on Global & Cultural Citizenship (through Alberta Education & Childcare's Competency Progressions) and East – Spirit, To Be (through the CBE's Holistic Lifelong Learning Framework). Together, these lenses have invited students to begin 2026-27 thinking about who they are, how they contribute, and what it means to be part of a community.
On Monday, staff had an important opportunity to consider where students are now and where our learning is taking us next. Grade teams engaged in deep conversations about longer-range planning in literacy and mathematics and beyond. We also spent time ensuring our library collection continues to grow alongside our teaching, including resources to support the new Social Studies curriculum. These opportunities to pause, reflect together, and plan forward help ensure that our school-wide learning is responsive to classroom and student endeavours.
Mid-November, as students return from Fall Break, our staff team will begin shifting our school-wide focus toward Communication (as an interdisciplinary competency) and South – Heart, To Belong (HLLF), continuing to explore how we listen, express ourselves, build relationships and create a community (and school!) where everyone can feel a sense of belonging.
Your proud principal,
Travis Robertson
Upcoming | School Lockdown Drill
Twice each school year a School Lockdown Drill is conducted by school administration/staff alongside Calgary Police Service (CPS) officers. Our first drill is scheduled for the morning of Thursday, October 22. This drill is ‘announced’ meaning students will have discussions with staff prior to the drill and will know (in advance) when the drill will take place. After each drill, staff, students, and administration receive feedback from CPS officers, allowing our school to meaningfully debrief.
A School Lockdown is implemented to restrict the movement of all persons (placed in a secure location) within a school during a critical incident. During such times it will not be possible to contact the school nor to enter the school. Once our drill has officially concluded, we will ensure we check for visitors to the school.
Both on the home-front and on the school-front, it is natural for students to bring questions and potential worries to trusted adults. We are providing this update to also allow you the opportunity to proactively check-in, knowing when this drill is conducted.
Special Guests | PE today/tomorrow
Queen Elizabeth School has been selected to take part in a two-day residency of the ELEV8 CLASSROOM Lacrosse Program alongside Ms. Annie Little throuhout PE. Thanks to the generosity of ELEV8's sponsor, The Calgary Hornets Lacrosse Association, we are one of a select number of schools will get to experience the CLASSROOM Lacrosse program at no cost (to families nor our school). ELEV8's partnership with the Calgary Hornets seeks to generate interest within schools and surrounding communities to continue to grow one of the fastest growing sports in the world. Lacrosse has experienced unprecedented growth in recent years and will be featured in the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, for the first time in over a century!
Update | QES Teacher Staffing
Please join me in welcoming Sondra Torstensen to our Grade 1 team! Sondra will be joining us until approximately November 20 as QES receives additional teaching support through a Class Size Reduction (CSR) Grant from Alberta Education and Childcare. We’re very pleased to have Sondra joining our Wolfpack and supporting our Grade 1 students and team.
Optional | Friday, October 30
Students and staff are invited to wear costumes that allow for safe and free movement on Friday, October 30 (and/or to wear orange or black).
We remind students and families: no masks, no weapons nor weapon replicas, and no costumes that impede safe movement on stairs (i.e. no inflatables). If in doubt, please check with your child(ren)’s teacher(s) ahead of time.
Inform | School Council & Parent Society
Families are invited to attend our School Council and Parent Society meetings on Tuesday, October 27, beginning at 6:30 PM.
Meetings take place on the stage, with childcare provided on-site (by School Council). The Parent Society meeting follows School Council, and this month our Grade 6 team will kick off our monthly meeting, sharing highlights relating to Personal Growth, and celebrating time at Outdoor School.
Upcoming | Remembrance Day Ceremony
Remembrance Day will be observed at QES the morning of Tue. November 10.
Due to very limited capacity in our gymnasium, we are unable to accommodate guests/parents at our assembly.
Save the Date | Parent/Student/Teacher Conferences
Our next Parent/Student/Teacher Conferences will take place November 26–27. More information, including conference times and booking details, will be shared closer to the dates. On November 26, conferences will follow dismissal. November 27 is a non-instructional day with conferences available that morning.
During this week School Council and Parent Society organize an in-person Scholastic Book Fair for interested families.
Refresh | Updating Our Wolf(pack) Logo
What does it mean to be part of the Wolfpack?
That is one of the questions we will be exploring with students as we begin refreshing our school logo.
Following discussions with School Council, Grade 5 students, alongside administration and teaching staff, are helping lead an engagement process across the school. They will develop questions that invite students to reflect on our school community, identity, and what our Wolfpack logo should represent.
Families will also have an opportunity to contribute. Following our student engagement, we will share what we are hearing and invite parent/guardian feedback through a survey. Our Grade 5 students will then work with the CBE Communications design team as a refreshed logo begins to take shape.
We look forward to hearing the ideas, perspectives, and voices of our Wolfpack community.
