Dear QES Families
Our first term of the 2024-25 school year is complete, and report cards are available for viewing on MyCBE. In March, we will again report on student progress and goals in the form of conferences. These conferences will be student led and will take place on March 20 and 21. We look forward to meeting with you then. If you have any questions in the meantime, please be sure to reach out to your child’s teacher.
In the coming months, CBE will be installing Video Surveillance Technology (VST) on the perimeter of the school. As part of the process for the installation of the technology we wanted to inform the school community about the project. The technology is being installed because CBE is committed to creating welcoming, caring, respectful and safe learning and work environments that respect diversity and foster a sense of belonging. Video surveillance technology is a complement to and not a replacement for other means of promoting welcoming, caring, respectful and safe learning and work environments.
Privacy is one of the factors considered when installing and using VST. Privacy and information are always protected in schools to promote and support safe and caring learning and work environments. This policy and value are part of the process when using VST. In all situations, staff and parents are responsible to ensure that information about other students, families, and teachers, is protected and information gained through the performance of duties or in a role as a volunteer in schools must be protected as well. Confidentiality is of the utmost importance in the school setting to ensure that the dignity and worth of students, parents, volunteers and school staff is honored. All members of a school community can assist greatly in enhancing student learning by working positively and cooperatively with the school team. If you have any questions about information from the school, please contact your child’s teacher who can support a conversation that respects our efforts to promote a safe and caring learning and work environment.
When the technology is on and running, we will send further messaging, and signage will be in place. If you have any questions about VST at QES, please contact the office at 403-777-6789.
Another way we can work together as a school community is to communicate about attendance and illness which includes evidence of rashes due to illness and other medical concerns such as lice. The CBE takes guidance from AHS when health issues are reported to the school. Further information can be found at General Health Measures - Health & Wellness in School - CBE.
In February and March, we will also have engagement surveys, which will be additional opportunities to engage within our school community. We look forward to the rest of February and the many ways we can continue to positively impact our school community.
Today is the last day of school until February 18, 2025. We hope you all enjoy a wonderful extra-long weekend!
