February Update| Principal's Message
Dear QES Families,
Happy February everyone! Our first term of the 2023-24 school year is complete and report cards are available for viewing on PowerSchool. In March, we will again report on student progress and goals in the form of conferences. These conferences will be student led and will take place on March 21 and 22. We look forward to meeting with you then. If you have any questions in the meantime, please be sure to reach out to your child’s teacher.
Valentine’s Day is upcoming and families are welcome to participate by sending in cards. If your child chooses to participate, we ask that a card is sent for everyone in the class. We ask that no food items be shared. We are also acknowledging the Lunar New Year and many students are researching and teaching others about this much loved tradition. Our school will be learning more between Feb. 12-24. We will also have Pink Shirt Day on Wednesday, February 28th. Stay tuned to classroom communication tools for more information.
This evening, Feb. 8, 2024 there will be the latest session of the Child and Youth Wellbeing Family Caregiver Series for families of Elementary aged students Child & Youth Well-Being Family & Caregiver Series - Health & Wellness in School - CBE
We have learned that some families are not receiving teacher and school emails. Our reports show that some families have blocked these emails. Blocks can happen if you intentionally or by accident tag an email as spam or junk, or sometimes email servers sense that an email is coming from an electronic mailing system and try to save you from the spam and the system blocks our emails. It can be helpful if you add your usual senders to your address book, then your system will recognize the messages as safe and not flag them as spam, (your teacher’s email address and queenelizabethelem@cbe.ab.ca, and lamcconnell@cbe.ab.ca ) If you also add cbecommunications@cbe.ab.ca that will help to ensure you receive system messages from the CBE.
We’d like to remind all members of our school community that the parking lot to the left of the school front is for QEHS staff members and the lot to the right is for QES staff members. Please do not drop students off in these parking areas. Both parking lots are not safe for student drop offs. Please drop students off in the loading zone at the front of the school. Thank you for your understanding and working to keep all students and staff safe at QES and QEHS.
On February 14, 2024 we will be transitioning to a new version of our school website. The hope is that families find the information more easily accessible. Please check your email for the new website address.
In February and March we will also have engagement surveys, which will be additional opportunities to celebrate our school community. We look forward to February and the many ways we can continue to positively impact our school community.
Take care,
Lisa McConnell
