Hello QES Families
Over the month of April students engaged in multiple extra-curricular opportunities. We had Science Club, Math Club, Choir, Recess Leadership Clubs, Howlers, Running Club and Public Speaking Club, so far. We would like to thank donors who contributed to Education Matters to support some of these extra-curricular activities. Through these opportunities and in their classrooms, students are intentionally and confidently sharing their skills and strengths for academics and social relationships. In all opportunities to extend learning, students demonstrated commitment to excellence. This was exemplified through our Division 1 Spring Concert and Division 2’s Talent Show and Choir attendance at the upcoming Calgary Performing Arts Festival. More field trips and learning opportunities are planned for the coming weeks. Please be sure to check your child’s classroom communication tools for updates.
In addition to engaging learning opportunities, May and June will bring many upcoming year-end events and celebrations. Please check your child’s classroom communication tools regularly.

QES Commitment to Truth and Reconciliation
In June 2024, QES Community made the following commitment:
Queen Elizabeth School acknowledges and supports the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s (TRC) Calls to Action, and makes the following commitment to action for the 2024-2025 school year: Heart- To Belong: Identify places across curriculum where Indigenous ways of being, belonging, doing and knowing can advance learning and then design learning tasks that foster as sense of belonging for everyone. What have we done so far:
- Land-based community excursions.
- Engaging with Maatoomsii-Pookaiks Day
- Integrating resources and literature
- Refining learning practices to include Indigenous Wise Practices
Please contribute your ideas to queenelizabethelem@cbe.ab.ca as we develop our TRC commitment renewal in June 2025.
We would like to sincerely thank our school council and community parents for our anticipated luncheon on Friday May 9 for Staff Appreciation Week. We also look forward to even more exciting learning opportunities in the weeks to come!
Sincerely,
Lisa McConnell
