Wolfpack Weekly
As our school makes our annual (re-)commitment to Truth and Reconciliation, classes have begun the school year in the East, within the Spirit – To Be domain of the CBE Indigenous Education Holistic Lifelong Learning Framework.
Throughout these first weeks, students have been invited to pause, notice, and deepen their relationship with the land and skies around us. The Blackfoot seasonal calendar identifies last Thursday as the beginning of Awaasiiki’soom (Deer Moon), a time when deer are abundant and visible across the landscape, while mid-October brings Mo’kaato’s (Fall Moon), marking the transition toward winter.
In the Métis lunar calendar, mid-September marks Ohpahoo Pésim (Flying Moon). This moon marks the moment when young birds, nurtured and protected in their nests, take their first flights and discover the world through a wider lens.
As autumn unfolds across this land, we also recognize that this September coincides with important treaty anniversaries: 150 years since the signing of Treaty 6 and 149 years since the signing of Treaty 7. These agreements continue to shape relationships, responsibilities, and commitments among Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples. May this season encourage us to reflect on what it means to live these treaty relationships with respect, reciprocity, and a commitment to walking forward together in a good way.

Upcoming | Terry Fox Run/Walk
Last year, our school community went above and beyond our fundraising goal, raising an amazing $12,940.17! Thank you to everyone who helped make that possible. For 2026, our goal has been set at $13,587.00, and we would love your help in reaching it! We are a cash-free donation school, so please donate through: https://schools.terryfox.ca/136592
Ms. Annie Little (PE) will continue to ensure celebration days as we work towards our goal! Thank you for each effort as we continue to see our grand total grow!
Tuesday | Terry Fox Run/Walk
On Tuesday, September 22, we are honoured to welcome Fred Fox (Terry Fox’s brother) for a special kick-off assembly before our annual Terry Fox Run/Walk. Due to limited gym capacity, the assembly is for students only.
Fred Fox’s visit will occur in the morning, shortly after students arrive for the day and will be followed by the AM Kindergarten run/walk within the morning. Most students will run in the afternoon, prior to dismissal. Students will participate on school grounds and should come prepared with appropriate footwear and clothing for the weather. Our annual Terry Fox Run/Walk and fundraiser for the Terry Fox Foundation is a well-established and important tradition for our Wolfpack.
We continue to be very proud of each effort and each dollar raised (with the fundraising link found above).
Thursday, September 24 | Meet-the-Teacher
Join us on Thursday, September 24, from 4:30 to 6:00 PM for our Open House-style Meet-the-Teacher event.
Families are encouraged to attend with their children, who can help guide them through classrooms, learning spaces, and activities. With students as guides, this is a casual opportunity for new and returning families to meet staff, explore learning spaces, and experience our school community. For parents with students in multiple grades, classrooms can be toured in any order, with families also invited to meet our PE and Music specialists.
Meet-the-Teacher is an opportunity for families to experience the classroom environment, see daily routines in action, explore learning spaces, and connect with our teaching staff alongside other families. To ensure an open and welcoming environment for everyone, specific discussions about student achievement or individual learning needs should be arranged separately with teachers for a date and time other than Meet-the-Teacher.
Inform | School Council & Parent Society
Families are invited to attend our School Council and Parent Society meetings on Tuesday, September 29, beginning at 6:30 PM.
Meetings take place on the stage, with childcare provided on-site (by School Council). The Parent Society meeting follows School Council, and this month our Grade 2 team will kick off our monthly meeting, sharing highlights of student learning connected to Global and Cultural Citizenship.
Inform (observed Tues. Sept 29) | Orange Shirt Day
QES will observe Orange Shirt Day on Tuesday, September 29, ahead of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on Wednesday, September 30.
Throughout September and beyond, students will participate in age-appropriate learning that honours residential school survivors, deepens understanding, and encourages reflection on our shared responsibilities toward reconciliation and reconciliACTION.
