Good afternoon, Wolf Pack families

This message is ensure you have some important dates and information about upcoming September events (likely already shared by teachers) and to provide some context for upcoming school-wide discussions.
As trees begin to change colours and mornings become more ‘crisp’, Autumn (or O'ko, Xazani, Bdagidu, or Latonn) 2025 is now just days away our northern hemisphere:

  • Blackfoot: (O'ko)
  • Tsuut'ina: (Xazini)
  • Îyârhe Nakoda: (Bdagidu)
  • Métis: (Latonn).

At this time of year, a very foundational time within each school year, we are reminded of Elder Casey Eagle Speaker’s teachings on Iikakimaton giving and doing (y)our best, as we look to the buffalo, one of only two animals that will turn and walk into a storm.  Collectively, and with a shared sense of resiliency (“with determination, diligence, perseverance, and above all, patience”), each of us are walking into brand new school year, together… facing challenges and any feelings of uncertainty, together.

As I remind you some important upcoming dates, I would like to continue to express enormous personal gratitude for a very warm welcome to our school community.  Our Wolf Pack has already taught me tons about how Iikakimat might look or sound in and beyond our classrooms.  I could not be more proud of our staff and of our parent community (early volunteers, School Council, and Parent Society members, and those working behind the scenes).  Students have been so welcoming with friendly smiles and hello’s.  I can say with utmost sincerity: this is a very special school, and incredibly wonderful place to be, each day.  Together, we’ll ensure we’re ready for whatever lies, ahead.

Kind regards,

Travis
