SPRING EQUINOX: A TIME OF RENEWAL
“The upcoming spring equinox, on March 20th, will indicate the beginning of a new season. Once again, Na'toosi (Grandfather Sun) and Kokomikisomm (Grandmother Moon) will share the sky equally, providing a balance of day and night. Motoyi (spring in Blackfoot) is a time of renewal and new beginnings. After a season of rest, the land comes to life with new growth, movement, and sounds. Green grass appears, the rivers thaw, beavers emerge from their winter lodges, and buffalo calves are born. For the two-leggeds, it is a time of awakening as well. Elder Casey Eagle Speaker has reminded us what a gift it is to witness life at the very beginning, to feel the energy of Na'a and come to understand her interconnectedness and our place within it.
Elder Casey and Saa'kokoto have shared that in traditional Blackfoot ways, the First Thunder signals a time for sacred practices and ceremonies to begin. This initiates a time of preparation, a time of gathering when the roots, berries, and medicines provide for Niitsitapi again.” From Indigenous Education Community Newsletter | Issue #9, Spring 2023
Reminder | Parent-Student-Teacher (Student-Led) Conferences
As a reminder, in-person conferences will be held on the evening of Thursday, March 19 and on the morning of Friday, March 20. Multiple families will be in classrooms concurrently.
Booking is now available virtually for timeslots. To book, see our Parent-Teacher Conference page for instructions:
- We ask that families book virtually prior to in-person attendance on:

- Friday, March 20: School Conferences from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM - No School for Students on this day
Lost and Found is being displayed this week for students in our school foyer (entrance). Please ensure you stop by displayed items before/after your time in classrooms.
Gratitude | Spring Concert
Enormous thanks to Ms. Fion Chan, our Music Specialist and to Mr. Dan Tinaburri, our Assistant Principal alongside our K-3 teaching team for each effort towards a very successful spring concert. We are so proud of our Wolfpack performers! Thank you, too, to each teacher and class for providing artwork in our gym and for supporting planning and transitions. We continue to be very grateful to our School Council & Parent Society for making sure our music program is well resourced with instruments, props, and repairs each school-year, too!
Gratitude | Bannock and Russ Baker Conversations/Demonstrations
Enormous thanks to Russ Baker for yesterday’s Bannock opportunity for our school. We are so appreciative of Ms. Michele Downs for her leadership work in organizing and liaising with Russ. Thank you to each parent volunteer coordinated through School Council for support throughout the day and to staff/students for each conversation! With this experience being funded fully by the National Food Program Agreement, there will be no fee passed on to students/families.
Upcoming | April 21 School Council & Parent Society
Please join us on the school stage for our next 6:30 PM School Council meeting. This meeting is followed by QES’ Parent Society discussions. Our Grade 4 team will be providing a classroom update to start off this month’s meeting.
